News From Grenada:
Hello Folks!
Tomorrow is Old Year's Night - New Year's Eve to us, and I've heard of a family in Willis (a little village a few miles north of us) who has actually dug a cellar in the ground and is going to seal themselves in because the world will come to an end on Saturday!  Boy, we hope not! We just got here and have a lot to do! Granada is beautiful now - lush tropical stuff just like you see on the travel postors; but supposedly the cool, dry season is just commencing when greenery turns brown and it only pours down rain twice a day instead of five times a day.  We have to carry an umbrella in our backpack because every Grenadian is a weatherman who doesn't know much about meteorolgy! We were warned about the heat and humidity.  Now we know!

The branch has reminded me of "The Church in the Wildwood," and I'm compelled to sing it often. Humble people meet to sing and worship - we love it! Transportation is the big problem.  Few cars, few people who can afford one.  Busses are the mode. A bus is a 15 passenger vehicle (van) with 22 people stuffed inside and driven at breakneck speeds by a big man with a wild and crazy hairdo down very narrow and mostly unmaintained roads.  That's all I can say about that.  We walk a lot! So, Latter-Day Saints in outlying areas attend church rarely, and it becomes a hassle for those closer in because the busses run sporadically on Sunday. Therefore, most attendees live within walking distance of the meeting house.

We were greeted by and have been treated royally by two of the finest elders in the missionary system! Elder South is from Rexburg and Elder Salmon is from Alberta, Canada.  We can just see BJ and TJ and Brendon (who looks, talks and acts like Elder South) and Morgan and Mick in these fine noble young men of God! We are so proud of our family! We expect to see all our boys come home from the mission field with worn out shoes and trousers and scriptures; no longer boys, but men who have grown through service.  We pray for that.

I think it was president Kimball who said "No matter how much we say of Him, it is too little. We will stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things and in all places - we have promised. We pray that our New Year's Resolutions include committments to share our testimonies upon every opportunity.  The Lord will bless us for our efforts - He has promised.

Love forever,
Elder and Sister Haueter
